This is the fifth part of my lesson series on music for A-Level Spanish, moving from traditional music in Spain and the Dominican Republic and the musical traditions of Argentina to the world of contemporary Spanish-language music.
In this lesson, students explore the development and characteristics of pop, reguetón, trap and Spanish-language rap, looking at influential artists, musical styles and the growing international popularity of music from the Spanish-speaking world. The lesson also examines some of the debates surrounding contemporary urban music, including sexism, gender stereotypes and the messages contained in some lyrics, before considering how music can be used to express identity and address important social issues.
The lesson also explores bilingualism in contemporary music, considering why artists combine Spanish and English and the advantages and potential disadvantages of using both languages in music.
In this lesson we talk about:
The lesson is in PowerPoint format (editable) and includes:

- A comprehensive 30-word vocabulary revision activity.

There are also visuals and multimedia resources throughout the lesson where appropriate, including opportunities to listen to and explore music by a range of Spanish-speaking artists. Links to videos are on the slide, in video icons, or inserted in the slides.
