This is the fourth part of my lesson series on music for A-Level Spanish, moving from traditional music in Spain and the Dominican Republic to the rich musical traditions of Argentina.
 
In this lesson, students explore el tango, looking at its origins, cultural influences, distinctive characteristics and importance within Argentine and Uruguayan culture. The lesson then examines tango choreography and the traditional roles of the dancers, before exploring the relationship between tango and machismo, including how traditional gender roles have evolved in modern society.

El tango y el machismo: los roles de género tradicionales y su reflection in the music and dance.
El tango en la sociedad moderna: la evolución de los roles tradicionales y las relaciones más igualitarias entre los bailarines.
